Maximum Dimensions & Spec of Custom Trailers

Maximum regulated build possibility specifications

If you need a custom trailer, it is possible that we build pretty much any specification required as long as it falls within these dimensions. Please contact us for help and information of ordering

All trailers are manufactured from steel box section (RHS) all galvanised after fabrication.

All trailers are given a Vehicle Identification Number and Year of Manufacture.

The following shows the Maximum Trailer Dimensions allowed of any one trailer.

  1. Length 4.5 metre closed (5.5 metre extended)
  2. Width 2 metre.
  3. Height 2.9 metre.
  4. Gross trailer weight 1300 Kg
  5. Net trailer weight 300 kg

(Teal will weigh the trailer when it’s finished)

Custom trailer for light air craft

Axles

  • Tandem Beam axle, Independent Rubber In-compression Suspension Units, braked
  • Rated 800kg each axle (see attached Manufactures Specification Sheets)

Wheels and tyres

  • 13” wheels and 155SR13 Radial tyres. Fitted to 14” wheels
  • All trailers come with spare wheel as standard.

Trailer Couplings

  • Braked over rider coupling 1300 Kg. with 50mm ball and integral jockey wheel clamp.
  • Heavy duty jockey wheels fitted as standard.

Tail Board

Tail board extends out when in use to conform with (UKRVR 1986) and retracts when not in use to save parking space.

Lighting Board

The Lighting Board is housed in an aluminium box to protect the lights from damage.

Wheel arch/mud guards

Wheel arch/mud guards made in moulded plastic mounted on steel brackets with aluminium checker plate treads on top (capable of carrying a persons weight).

Load Bars

Load bars (horizontal and vertical) have a ‘D’ section rubber on the carrying face to protect the Kayaks/Canoes from damage and have steel rings welded to end of bars to aid in securing the Craft.

Paddle / kit box

Paddle / kit box constructed in 2mm aluminium sheet to keep equipment clean, drain holes in each corner, with the following option of having doors on the ends of the box, lid on the top of the box or both.

Specification For Other Trailers...

For all trailers other than the maximum dimensions the following specification applies

Kari-Tek trailers are manufactured in accordance with the UK Road Vehicles (construction and use) Regulations 1986 and amendments.

Trailers manufactured from steel box section (RHS) all galvanised after fabrication.

Standard Dimensions

  • Widths: - 1600mm, 1800mm and 2000mm (max width allowed on UK roads is 2300mm)
  • Length will vary depending on type of kayak/canoe to be carried, i.e. sea kayak trailers will be longer than play boat trailers.
  • Height of trailers vary depending on number of kayaks/canoes and the configuration of craft being carried.

Wheels and tyres

  • 550 Kg units have 10” wheels and 145x10x74 tyres
  • 750 Kg. units have 13” wheels and 155x13x84 tyres
  • All trailers come with spare wheel as standard

Trailer Couplings

  • Braked over rider coupling 750 Kg. with 50mm ball and integral jockey wheel clamp.
  • Unbraked coupling 50mm ball and cast steel body, separate cast steel jockey wheel clamp
  • Heavy duty jockey wheels fitted as standard.
